A lecture on shade-tolerant plants in urban areas of Almat

On the basis of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has held a lecture on shade-tolerant plants in urban areas of Almaty. This lecture was another event held within the framework of the "Sadi Sady' (Plant Gardens) project, organized by the "Tethys" Public Association in partnership with the Kazakhstan National Committee of the UNESCO "Man and the Biosphere" Program and the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Development with the financial support of the Soros Foundation Kazakhstan.

The aim of this project is to promote respect for the environment and nature by taking care of the public near-home territory - front gardens. The inhabitants of the city come to urban gardening for various reasons, but all of them are united by the desire to make their lives and the lives of the people around them beautiful and harmonious. Uniting, the community of urban gardeners will be able to exchange knowledge, support, resources, and also solve the emerging difficulties together.

The theme of the lecture - shade-tolerant plants - is relevant just for the front gardens, many of which are in semi-shade and deep shadow. In his speech, Vladimir Epiktetov, a specialist in urban planning, listed about 40 plant species that tolerate in such lighting and spoke about their diversity and the subtleties of care.
