KazNU Scientists’ Technology was Introduced to Production

10/31/2018

On October 31, a significant and joyful event took place in the village of Boraldai in the Iliysky District of the Almaty Region – a pilot production of polyester resins has been launched. Technology developed by KazNU scientists has been introduced into production.

The aim of launching an experimental-industrial complex is to get polyester resins on special purposes for the production of various composite and other materials. The project is implemented with financial support of the JSC «Science Foundation» with participation of a private partner «VASTE» LLP. The developers of the technology are scientists of the SOE Subsidiary Research Institute of New Chemical Technologies and Materials of KazNU.

«Our joint work with KazNU and «VASTE» LLP is aimed at commercializing the results of scientific and scientific-technical activities. This is the first enterprise of the country on production of unsaturated polyester resin, the price of which is less for 15-20% than of imported one. Kazakhstani manufacturers of composite materials will get affordable and high-quality raw materials,» – highlighted Anuarbek Sultangazin, President of the «Science Foundation» of the MES RK, at the opening ceremony.

According to Project Manager Galiya Yirmukhametova, polyester resin is made on the basis of anhydrides, polyols, styrene and acrylates with improved physico-mechanical characteristics.

«Taking into account the needs and specifics of the customer, we use most of the polyester resins in the production of various composite and building materials, fiberglass, artificial stone, tanks, pipes, pools, water rides, car body parts, facade elements and radio shielding kits», – noted the Head of the site of «VASTE» LLP Bolat Bayzhanov.

In the first quarter of 2019, it is planned to launch production at the main process equipment, as well as certification of the laboratory on product quality control. After reaching full capacity, the Company will produce up to 300 tons of products per year.
