The Department of the Far East presented scholarship programs of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, which were received by undergraduates, graduates and doctoral students of the al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

From January 27 to January 31, 2019, the Days of India Festival of Indian Literature and Culture was held for the first time in Almaty, this Festival was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Republic of India and the 150th anniversary of the birth of the spiritual leader of the Indian people, Mahatma Gandhi.

The Hanguk University of Foreign Languages (Republic of Korea) is the most stable partner of the Department of the Far East (Korean Studies) of KazNU named after Al-Farabi. In recent years, the tradition of the Winter School in KazNU has changed its format.

In 2018, the Department of Korean Studies of the Department of the Far East accepted an unprecedented number of first years students. Adviser - curator, as well as a doctoral student in the specialty "Oriental Studies" Sermukhametova Bagzhan told about the main priorities of the modern day through the prism of history.
From 17 – 18 January 2019, the Republic of Korea held an international scientific conference under the auspices of the " New Understanding and Utilization of Local Culture Resources "at the Andong state University in Andong. 12 reports were presented at the conference, including speakers from Japan, China, Mongolia and Kazakhstan.

The traditional winter training seminar was organized by the Faculty of Philosophy and Political Science and the department of university education.
The Department of the Far East once again accepts the professorial staff of the Tokyo University of Foreign Languages. Professor OKADA Akito within the program of visiting professors visited KazNU and read a course of lectures on the education system in Japan. Professor OKADO Akito defended his master's thesis at the University of New York (USA), a doctoral thesis at the University of Oxford (Great Britain), and authored a number of scientific papers published in rating publications of SCOPUS.
Yem Natalia, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of the Far East, as a member of the Presidium of the Association of Koreans of Kazakhstan took part in Korea – Central Asia Special Forum for Issue of Koryoin: Extensive Issue and Future Aspect and gave a public lecture for students of the Institute of Central Asian Studies in Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

The Faculty of Oriental Studies hosted an international conference about Korean literature called “Study of Korean literature abroad: problems, trends and prospects”. It is part of a three-year project, to discuss about researches done by non-native on Korean studies , funded by the Academy of Korean Studies of the Republic of Korea.
Professors from 4 countries (Kazakhstan, China, Russia and Korea) took part in the international conference.
