INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ABOUT KOREAN LITERATURE

The Faculty of Oriental Studies hosted an international conference about Korean literature called “Study of Korean literature abroad: problems, trends and prospects”. It is part of a three-year project, to discuss about researches done by non-native on Korean studies , funded by the Academy of Korean Studies of the Republic of Korea.

Professors from 4 countries (Kazakhstan, China, Russia and Korea) took part in the international conference.

In project leader, Prof. Safronova Lyudmila's speech, she noted that “Currently, the project has been going on for the second year. The project research team has done a lot of work, a lot of tasks have been accomplished. During the first year of the project, 3 textbooks were prepared. Besides, under the program of double-diploma education, two undergraduates are being trained in Korea. I believe that this is a clear evidence showing that Korean studies system in Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has been strengthened. We hope that this conference gave useful information to fellow participants, and we will try our best to contribute in order to achieve the success of this project. ”

“I think that this event makes a great contribution to the compilation of textbooks on Korean literature and the development of Korean literature in Kazakhstan. Thanks to the deep understanding and in-depth research of professors all over the world, the level of comprehension about Korean studies in the academic and objective aspects will be improved. In addition, I wish this conference can be a great platform in exchanging opinions and information regarding Korean literature and teaching methods, ”said Vice-Consul of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Almaty, Lee Joon Ho.

This international conference has become an open platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences between Korean scholars and experts in Korean studies.
