NPU Kazakhstan Branch Campus Program Guide
Northwestern Polytechnical University Branch Campus in Kazakhstan ("NPU Branch campus" for short) was officially opened on October 12, 2023. The Branch campus was jointly established with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU). Located in Xi'an, Shaanxi, Northwestern Polytechnical University is a top Chinese engineering university that cultivates talents in aeronautics, astronautics and marine technology engineering. As a national "First-Class" university (A class), NPU ranked among the top 151-200 according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities. KazNU is the largest and best comprehensive university in Kazakhstan, according to 2024 QS World University Rankings it ranked 230.
I. Introduction to Program
Program Level: Master.
Majors: Material Science, Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology
Registration time: September of each year.
Duration: 2 years (1+1).
General information: In the first year, students will need to complete all the courses in KazNU. In the second year, students will come to NPU to complete the MS research. Students could get 2 diplomas from each university upon fulfillment of the graduation requirements of both universities.
II. Application
International Students
Application Period:
May 25, 2024—July 30, 2024
Admission Requirements:
1. Good physical and mental health. Non-Chinese citizens.
2. Applicants should be under 30 by September 1st, 2024.
3. Academic Requirement: As of September 1st, 2024, applicants must hold a bachelor's degree.
4. Learning Ability
Applicants should have good learning ability and academic performance. The requirement for previous academic grade level is an average score of 75% and above.
5. Language Requirement
IELTS Academic Test overall 6.0 or above, Duolingo English Test 105 or above, TOEFL 80 or above.
Application and Selection Procedure:
Step 1 – Documents Preparation
Applicants must meet all requirements and prepare application materials accordingly.
Step 2 – Application
（1） Option 1: Create an account and log into the NPU online application portal at (http://admission.nwpu.edu.cn/) to complete the application.
（2） Option 2: Please check it in the attachment.
Step 3 - Application Materials Review
Step 4 –Interview
1. NPU and KazNU will hold joint interview. Qualified applicants will receive e-mail notifications regarding the interview method, content and time. Applicants should attend the interview according to specified instructions.
2. The Admissions office will announce the results via e-mail a week after the examination or interview.
III. Application documents
1. A copy of the personal information page of your valid passport.
2. Passport-sized photographs. (3x4)
3. A copy of undergraduate diploma.
4. Transcripts for each semester/academic year during undergraduate period.
5. Study and research plan
6. English language certificate.
7. A copy of "Physical Examination Form for Foreigners" for China (valid for six months)
8. Non-criminal record.
9. Application form (Option 2).
After recruited, the following documents need to be prepared for registration:
- Medical certificates for Kazakhstan:
- Medical certificate form No. 75-U;
- Copy of the prophylactic vaccination card;
- AIDS (Almaty, Basenova st. 2)
*All medical certificates must be issued in Kazakhstan!
5. Photographs （2）.
6. Agreement with the University of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
IV. Fees
Tuition: 1st Year：Around 2347000 Tenge；2nd Year：30000 RMB
Accommodation: 1st Year: Charged by KazNU or Live off-campus (Self-pay) ; 2nd Year: 7200 RMB
V. Scholarship
1．First level: exempt from tuition fee, accommodation fee, and living allowances are provided: 2000RMB/month*12months
2．Second level: exempt from tuition fee.
3．Third level: exempt from 50% tuition fee.
VI. Process supervision
1. The whole process of selection and admission will be strictly regulated by the university and follows the principle of openness, fairness, and academic integrity.
2. Any dishonesty that happened during the selection and admission process will lead to admission or studentship cancellation.
3. Disposition of other violations will be per the relevant provisions issued by the Ministry of Education of China.
