On the eve of the Independence Day, the «Аlatau» winter garden was opened in KazNU.

The annual “Day of Japanese Culture” was held at the Central State Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty 3 November. The Embassy of Japan held the event in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan - Japanese Human Resource Development Center, Narhoz University, the Association of Japanese Businessmen in Kazakhstan, the Japanese Association in Kazakhstan, the organization of Terracaya and the Kazakhstan-Japan Silk Road Association.

The 27th anniversary of the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan was solemnly celebrated in Al-Farabi KazNU. The opening of a Winter Garden and a new Student Dance Hall at the University became a pleasant surprise for the teachers and students of the country’s leading HEI.

According to the study of the authoritative European ranking «Academic Ranking of World Universities-European Standard» («ARES»), Al-Farabi KazNU became the leader among higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan.

On December 14, 2018, the Department of customs, financial and environmental law of al-Farabi Kazakh National University summed up the results of the Republican contest of posters on the theme "Желтоқсан рухы - Тәуелсіздіктің туы" dedicated to the Independence Day of the Republic of Kazakhstan. 

On December the Library of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University held a round table dedicated to the 70 th anniversary of the adoption of the “UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights”. The anniversary event was organized by: UNESCO Chair, International Journalism and Media in Society; UNESCO Chair in Sustainable Development; Institute for Sustainable Development. Ban Ki-moon at KazNU, Al-Farabi.

Vice-Rector of KazNU Askar Khikmetov held a meeting with representatives of the Malaysian consulting company «Amanie Advisors» and the Astana International Financial Center.

On December 10, an international conference dedicated to the Great Silk Road "Silk Road Mapping: from analog to electronic" was held at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

International Student Projects Competition entitled «New Media in the New Era» was held in Almaty. It was attended by students of I-IV courses specializing in journalism, public relations, and publishing.

Italian President Sergio Mattarella has awarded the Head of Department of International Relations and World Economy of the Faculty of International Relations, Al-Farabi KazNU, Yermek S. Chukubayev, the Order of the «Star of Italy».
