In June 1, 2012 was held online seminar with the participation of PhD’s and masters faculty of geography and natural management of our university with the Director of GIS Centre and Geoinformatics University of Salzburg, Professor Josef Strobl on the topics "GIS in geographic research.". He is also director of the GI Science Austrian Academy of Sciences During the workshop were presented valuable copyrights lectures of Professor and were also questions from the masters and PhD students. At the end of the seminar head of the department of geography, land management and cadastre Dr.Geo.Sc., Professor. Nyusupova G.N thanked the professor for an interesting workshop, and in the future such workshops will be continued in the online. During the seminar, PhD students Sarsenova I.B, Shokparova D.K, masters Kalimurzina A., M. Kudaibergenov and others have been participated actively, asked questions and received valuable advice on the application of GIS technology in scientific thesis. And also organizing committee thanked IT specialist of our university Asulan Kenzhebekov for an information technical support.

The contest works in the Korean language is of great historical, political, cultural, educational value, as well as raise of the level of teaching and learning the Korean language, and contributes to the promotion and distribution in our country and help strengthen the friendly relations between Kazakhstan and Korea and the countries of Central Asia .

Resource Center of American and Democratic Studies held a meeting with audience of the Military College (USA, Washington), MA and PhD students of international relations department. The event was held in the format "presentation-discussion."

The annual Olympiad “USA: history and modern system of international relations” organized by the Resource Centre of American Studies was held on May 5, 2012.

KazNU Al-Farabi has become the first University in Central Asia, where the world’s famous company Hewlett-Packard (HP) opens its representation. University and HP have signed a Memorandum on the establishment of a modern training and research center.

Teaching and Research Center at the University will be established within the program "HP Institute of Technology" and will be equipped with HP software. The project is implemented with the support of HP Business Development Organization in emerging markets (Growth Market Organization) and the HP Board in Central and Eastern Europe.

Young Woong Jae told about the activities of POSCO company, programs that are supported by the Foundation and their results. In particular, he gave an example, that a graduate of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of KazNU in 2005, Yulia Andreeva, thanks to the support of the Foundation has successfully graduated from the University in South Korea and got a job in POSCO. Today, one more student of KazNU is studying in Korea, and the Foundation has granted a scholarship of 15,000 U.S.D. to one of the professors of the University.

"This year we mark the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Korea. The mutually beneficial partnership and friendship between two countries is strengthening every year. In 2006 the Foundation launched a new program "Scholarships to the best students in Asian countries." In the framework of this program the students of 12 Universities in 10 countries in Asia are granted premiums. KazNU Al-Farabi is one of the first who signed the Memorandum of Cooperation with Foundation, under which every year the best students of the University are awarded special scholarships.

Centre for German Studies under supervision of Professor Mara Gubaidullina was awarded the Grant of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) for International Relations Department (IRD) student’s trip to Germany in June 2012. The grant will give an opportunity for a 15 students to have an internship in Germany universities.

April 20 at the Department of Geography and natural resources were competitions between teams of faculty to the national holiday dedicated to the game Togyzkumalak Nauryz. According to the results: 1st place - Faculty of Geography and natural resources. 2nd place - Higher School of Economics and Business, and 3rd place - Mechanics and Mathematics.
