International poetry evening “Eastern poetry: Abai and Nima, Mukagali and Orhan Veli”

On February 21, 2018, at 14.00, an international poetry evening "Oriental poetry: Abay and Nima, Mukagali and Orkhan Veli", organized by the TURKSOY scientific and educational center of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Central Scientific Library of RSE "Gylym Ordasy" of MES RK, the cultural center of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the RK, was held. At the evening, doctor of philology sciences, Islamic scholar, professor Islam Zhemenei spoke about the similarities of the Persian poet Nima and the great Abai. Then, Zhenis Abeldaev, senior lecturer, Deputy Head of the TURKSOY Department of Oriental Studies Faculty, made a report on the life and work of Orkhan Veli Kanyk, which takes its significant place in the Turkish literature of the 20th century. Students of universities of Almaty took part in the evening and read the poems of the great poets of Kazakhstan and Iran. Students philologists of the Turkish language introduced guests the translated versions of the works of Kazakh poets Abai and Mukagali to Turkish and Tatar languages.

At the end of the evening, students were awarded cash prizes for poetry readings. Such events have a positive impact on mutual understanding and cooperation between the two countries, as well as promote tolerance and mutual respect in the students of Kazakhstan and Iran.
