Years 30 - Movement Nevada-Semey

2/28/2019

Al-Farabi KazNU hosted a large-scale event dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the movement «Nevada-Semey». President of the International Anti-Nuclear Movement «Nevada-Semey», national writer and poet Olzhas Suleimenov, a public figure of Kazakhstan, cultural scientist Murat Auezov, veterans of the anti-nuclear movement Maidan Abishev, Amangeldy Mustafin, Lyudmila Prus, Valery Zhandauletov, Gulsim Suleimenova, Viktor Inyushin, Inyushin, Efim Zuslin, Commander of the Republican Guard Amangeldy Shabdarbayev, youth wing of KazNU «Nevada-Semey» and representatives of the youth organization of the city of Almaty, and many others took part in the event.

Welcoming the solemn meeting of all participants and guests, Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU Galym Mutanov highlighted the tragic historical facts of the Semipalatinsk test site, which affected thousands of families. Thus at the test site 616 nuclear and thermonuclear charges were tested in the air, in the water and underground.

«In 1989, the movement «Nevada-Semey» was formed, which, led by the famous poet, public figure Olzhas Suleimenov, acquired a great national scope. As a result, on August 29, 1991, the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site was closed. This was a truly planetary event that radically changed the public consciousness and attitude of the world to nuclear weapons. Thus, the United Nations Organization on August 29 was declared the International Day of Action against nuclear testing», - noted the Rector of KazNU.

In turn, Olzhas Suleimenov, welcoming the audience, stressed the importance of this movement. «Nevada-Semipalatinsk» landfill is two twins. We could not speak only Semipalatinsk, and added American Nevada, both of it were the largest polygon on the Earth. The explosion in the Japanese city of Hirasimo was also similar. At the end of the twentieth century, there was a «moment of democracy» when I was given 10 minutes of live broadcast, and I realized that this is a unique chance that should not be missed. We have been deceived for sixty-three years. Explosions were carried out under ground. I was called by one person and told that he lives not far from the landfill where the explosions occur. He told me that he was worried about the consequences of nuclear explosions, which could negatively affect his family. If the tests are done in the air, then humanity does not need any war. Tests were conducted under the ground. Kazakhstan has become a victim. Our movement became the brand of Kazakhstan and it was supported by more than 2 million citizens of the country. We stopped 11 explosions out of 18. The work of the movement is the work of society», - said poet Olzhas Suleimenov.

The importance of the movement «Nevada-Semey» was also highlighted in the speeches of the publicist scientist culturologist Murat Auezov. It is known that in Soviet times about 600 explosions were committed at the Semipalatinsk test site. Its capacity exceeded the explosion in Hiroshima by 2.5 thousand times. Today, as a result, every sixtieth child is born sick, with disabilities.

During the event, a doctoral candidate of the Faculty of Geography and Environmental Management, the Chairperson of KazNU’s youth organization «Nevada-Semey» Gulzhan Tanabekova also spoke on behalf of the youth. She thanked on behalf of the youth all members of the movement «Nevada-Semey» for their great contribution to the struggle for peace.

«This year marks the 30th anniversary of the cessation of nuclear explosions. We know the suffering and difficulties of the people. The international anti-nuclear movement places great hopes on young people and we must work to realize your ideas and goals that have already become common», - said G. Tanabekova.

At the end of the meeting, the guests were presented with gifts and there were taken memorable photos.
