KOREAN STUDIES WEEK AT FAR EAST DEPARTMENT
2/29/2020The Department of the Far East of the Faculty of Oriental Studies organized a number of events as part of the Korean Studies Week, including a meeting with the Consul General of the Republic of Korea Kim Hyung-soo.
The honorary guest of the Department delivered a lecture on the topic «The policy of unification of the Korean Peninsula and future cooperation». The grateful listeners of the lecture included: Head of the Department of the Far East, N.B. Em, Professor D.V. Men, visiting professors Lee Beng Joe, Jang Won Ki, Yoon Heng Sook, teachers and students of the Department.
In his speech, the Consul General highlighted the high potential for cooperation between the two countries on the basis of cultural and historical similarities, and he also spoke about the prospects and possible risks for the further development of international relations against the background of the unification of the two states of the Korean Peninsula.
Mr. Kim Hyung-soo gave prizes to students who asked interesting questions about the content of his report in Korean, demonstrating a high level of language training.
The week of Korean studies was full of various activities. With the support of the Korean Literature Science Center (Seoul), an Olympiad was held on the Korean language and culture. In addition, the competition «I and Korea» was held with musical performances by students of the Department, and a meeting with employers.
The brightest and most memorable one was the day of Korean cuisine. Students took part in a master class from teachers Kim Yang Mi, Lee Zeng Hye, and Choi Ji Yong and they themselves prepared various national Korean dishes.
Trying to meet the high requirements that are set today in education, teachers of the Department of the Far East are always at the center of the public life of the Faculty, stimulating the educational process by various activities, and setting students on a creative attitude to their chosen profession.
