11/23/2020

The Kazakh-French Research School of Mathematics is to be established at Al-Farabi KazNU. Rector of the leading Kazakhstani University Galym Mutanov and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Kazakhstan Didier Canesse agreed on this during a bilateral meeting.

At present, KazNU successfully operates the GeoEnergy Centre, which was established in 2010 under the strategic partnership agreement between France and Kazakhstan, on the initiative of Presidents Nazarbayev and Sarkozy. During this time, more than 100 Master's students and more than 20 Doctoral students have been trained under joint educational programs in such specialties as «Mechanics», «Mathematical and Computer Modeling», «Informatics» and «Computer Science and Software». Currently, the Centre is being transformed into the Kazakh-French Institute of Science, Technology and Energy, which is scheduled to open in 2021. Ambassador of France D. Canesse called this project one of the main priorities of his mission in Kazakhstan.

To date, in partnership with the University of Lorraine and the University of Champagne-Ardenne in Reims, four joint two-diploma master's programs in oil and gas, energy, mathematics and mechanics have been developed. This partnership enables KazNU students not only to study and undergo professional internships in France, but also to intensively learn French in special courses.

During the meeting, the parties also expressed their intention to establish a joint Kazakh-French Research School of Mathematics, the main purpose of which will be to train specialists of a new formation with the competence to apply knowledge in practice. The educational programs of the School are aimed at training highly qualified personnel and increasing the international competitiveness of graduates, which will undoubtedly contribute to their successful employment in leading companies worldwide. It is also planned to establish international research groups and work on joint research projects, including in the field of high technology, with EU funding.

During the meeting Ambassador Didier Canesse highlighted the high scientific and educational potential of KazNU and expressed confidence that the opening of the School of Mathematics will contribute to further expansion and strengthening of cooperation between the leading university of Kazakhstan and higher education institutions of France.
