THE GERMANY GENERAL CONSUL GEROLD AMELUNG ON A VISIT AT STUDENTS DEPATMENT INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS: AMBASSADORIAL HOUR
4/12/2011The ambassadorial hour devoted to the “basics of the modern foreign policy of Germany and directions of cooperation with the Republic of Kazakhstan” were held on the department of International Relations, General Consul of the Federal Republic of Germany, Gerold Amelung were the guest on this meeting.
In the beginning the dean of the International Relations Department thanked Mr. Amelung and the German embassy for traditionally close cooperation with the department. U.Lokteva, the director of the international department of the university confirmed the will to the further meetings with diplomats and german specialists in various formats.
It was very cognitive for the future international relations specialists to hear about the career growth of Mr. Amelung. After getting the economic education the future diplomat also studied the sinology then worked in educational sphere by DAAD some time. After that he started to work for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Germany. After 12 years on diplomatic service in China and several diplomatic representative offices in Japan, he was directed to Kazakhstan which he finds very interesting and in which he is happy to represent Germany.
The lecture of Mr.Amelung was devoted to the peculiarities of German foreign policy, to its features which distinguish the aims of Germany in international relations. First of all Germany- is one of the leading and influential country in the world with a strong economic system. Equally with the USA Germany provides developing countries with the socio-economic support which is 7,8 billion $. He also emphasized, according to BBC annual data Germany is on the first place among more than 120 countries of the world during a long period as the country with “the most peaceful foreign policy”. The basic of its foreign policy is to save and maintain peace.
The important matters concerning the modern foreign policy and the participation of Germany in it took place during the discussion. Also they discussed the contribution of Germany to the maintenance of peace and stability in different regions – Afghanistan, Middle East, Balcans and Central Asia. The students were interested in the peculiarities of German diplomacy, its position in nuclear matter, energetic policy and the challenges in relations with Kazakhstan and etc.
The meeting is organized and spent at the initiative of prof. M.Sh.Gubaidullina and support of General Consulate of Germany in Almaty.
