Al-Farabi KazNU, as the Global Hub of the UN program "Academic Impact” Program on Sustainability, held an international round table on the topic "The role of youth in the implementation of the SDGs within the framework of the UN Agenda "Decade of Action", dedicated to the day of Kazakhstan's official accession to the UN.
Opening the event, acting First Vice-rector of al-Farabi KazNU Professor Mukhambetkali Burkitbayev highlighted the role of the university in educating youth of the idea of global citizenship as one of the important factors in the successful implementation of the SDGs.
Head of the Representative Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty, Mr. Erlan Iskakov by congratulating the participants on the important date dwelled on strategic initiatives and programs to strengthen the UN's activities in Kazakhstan and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The representative of the UN Global Communications Department, Mr. Vlastimil Samek for its part, emphasized the fact that KazNU, as the only Hub of the UNAI Program in Central Asia is a key university which institutionalized the international youth communication platform New Silk Way Model UN, thereby providing comprehensive support to youth initiatives.
The round table brought together over 100 delegates. During the event, a discussion and exchange of views of experts and students took place, projects of young scientists were also presented, including the creation of an information and analytical news portal “IRD News” dedicated to diplomacy initiated by the Faculty of International Relations.
