At a meeting of the Academic Council of Al-Farabi KazNU, issues of organizing the educational process in the 2021-2022 academic year, digitalization of the university's activities, preparation of educational buildings and student houses for the new academic year were discussed.

The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of KazNU Askar Hikmetov spoke about the readiness of the university to organize the educational process and dwelled on the important points of this issue. In particular, in the next new academic year, the number of bachelors is projected to decrease by 10 percent. Today, the number of students at the bachelor's degree is about 21 thousand people. The number of undergraduates (3233) and doctoral students (1289), in the next academic year 2021-2022, on the contrary, will increase by several percent. Every year, the best graduates of Kazakhstani schools enter KazNU for a grant, students who have not scored a sufficient score according to the results of the UNT study for a fee.

The speaker presented information on the workload for professors and teachers, which was recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Three variants of proposals were voiced to increase the teaching load to 650 hours. Today the workload of teachers at KazNU is up to 400 hours. This issue will be resolved collectively, while taking into account the opinions of teachers and scientists of the university.

In the message of the vice-rector, the situation with the change in the passing score for admission to a university at some faculties was analyzed. In particular, at the Faculty of Philology, the passing score will be reduced from 100 to 80. The key problems of the educational process of the university and ways of solving them were also voiced.

Further, the director of the Institute of Information Technologies and Innovative Development Yerlan Kistaubaev presented a report on the digitalization of the university's activities. He spoke about the complex of information systems of KazNU and DOT platforms, which are currently used in the educational process, as well as the modernization of the IPK "Univer 2.0".

During the meeting of the Academic Council, a special commission analyzed the report of each speaker and made comments and alternative proposals. Thus, the Institute of Information Technologies and Innovative Development was asked to finalize the work-around list for graduates and develop a convenient similar document for expelled and foreign students. And in order to fulfill the plan for the further development of digitalization of KazNU's activities, it was recommended to purchase tablets. “Tablets are much cheaper than buying or downloading books. To ensure the student's educational process (UMKD, educational-methodical literature, etc.), it is possible to determine the content of the corresponding course and specialty. The advantage of tablets is that the electronic data stored in memory will be reliably protected, ”said Sairan Bayandinova, director of the Keremet DSP.

In this regard, the Chairman of the Board is the rector of KazNU named after al-Farabi Zhanseit Tuimebayev noted that it is necessary to be introduced into the world scientific and educational space, to strengthen the digitalization process at the university.

“Today we need to direct all efforts to accelerate the transformation of a university into a research university, to raise science and education to a new level. To actively expand international cooperation, academic mobility of students and teachers. Students must receive quality education and become competitive in order to contribute to the development of our country, ”the rector said.

It should be noted that at the meeting of the Council of Scientists it was proposed to open the Department of Turkology at the Faculty of Philology. Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev stressed that ten years ago, on the initiative of the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, the International Turkic Academy was founded in Kazakhstan. And today our country is the center of world Turkic studies. Thus, the opening of the Department of Türkology is an important decision that will contribute to the in-depth study of languages and the expansion of knowledge about the cultural characteristics and traditions of the Turkic-speaking countries.

At the end of the Academic Council, the rector of KazNU Zh. Tuimebayev congratulated the female half of the university staff on the International Women's Day on March 8.
