DISCUSSED SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
6/1/2021UN Resident Coordinator in RK Mikaela Friberg-Story visited Al-Farabi KazNU. During the meeting, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Chairman of the Board-Rector of KazNU named after al-Farabi, spoke about the international activities and achievements of the university in the field of science and education.
In his speech, Rector Zh.Tuimebayev noted that KazNU named after al-Farabi is the only university in Kazakhstan and Central Asia that entered the top 200 best universities in the world and ranks 165th in the global QS World ranking. This year marks the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence. In this regard, the head of the university suggested holding a number of international events and conferences dedicated to this significant event. All 16 faculties and departments of the university are ready to join UN environmental projects to contribute to the sustainable development program. Scientists of KazNU, in particular the faculties of biology, physics and chemistry, have been working in this direction for a long time, demonstrating specific research results that could be useful for society.
It should be noted that KazNU is the only university in Central Asia that has developed its own space satellite, the activities of which are aimed at receiving, processing and disseminating remote sensing data, creating geoproducts on their basis for various sectors of the national economy.
In turn, UN Resident Coordinator in Kazakhstan Mikaela Friberg-Storey thanked the university leadership for supporting and promoting UN projects. The distinguished guest expressed interest in close cooperation with scientists from KazNU. She suggested using specialized technical agencies that would help promote meaningful sustainable development projects. During the meeting, the interlocutors exchanged views on all areas of interaction between the two sides and stressed their mutual readiness to promote further deepening and expansion of cooperation. The working meeting was also attended by the representative of the UN Global Communications Department Vlastimil Samek.
