DISCUSSED ISSUES OF COOPERATION WITH THE WORLD BANK
6/7/2021A meeting of the Chairman of the Board-Rector of the University Zh.K. Tuimebayeva with the World Bank Resident Representative in Kazakhstan, Mr. Jean-Francois Marteau. During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for fruitful cooperation.
The visit of the guest of honor to the country's leading university began with an excursion to its museum, during which Mr. Marteau had the opportunity to get acquainted with the history and achievements of the university. It should be noted that the World Bank and KazNU are linked by long-standing and successful cooperation and implementation of joint projects.
Welcoming Mr. Jean-François Marteau, Chairman of the Board-Rector of KazNU Zh.Tuimebayev stressed that the strategic partnership of Kazakhstan with the World Bank has allowed to achieve positive results on projects relevant to our country and thereby improve the socio-economic and environmental situation in the country.
According to the head of the university, the university pays special attention to improving competitiveness, improving the system of public administration, enhancing work on environmental protection. More than 10 small innovative enterprises have been created, attracting more than $ 5 million over the past 10 years in the form of grants from the World Bank for the commercialization of technologies. Thanks to the participation of the bank, the Faculties of Mechanics and Mathematics, Physics and Technology, and Chemistry of the university have successfully implemented their projects. In addition, 10 foreign students study at KazNU under a grant from the World Bank. University employees took courses, internships, took part in the bank's seminars in Washington.
“In 2012, the World Bank joined the United Nations to spearhead efforts to provide the world's poor with electricity and environmentally friendly fuels,” stressed the KazNU rector. “As the Global Hub of the UN Academic Impact for Sustainability, we stand ready to support joint UN-World Bank initiatives.”
In turn, Mr. Jean-Francois Marteau, thanking for the warm welcome, expressed his readiness to cooperate with the university on mutually beneficial terms, supporting the projects initiated by the university.
Further, the parties discussed the following issues: the possibility of increasing the number of applications for grant financing of scientific and innovative projects, internships and internships of students and undergraduates in the structures and partners of the World Bank, establishing an exchange of scientific materials and obtaining additional opportunities for publications for university scientists, etc.
Prospects for cooperation KazNU named after Al-Farabi and the World Bank are also associated with joint research in topical areas of science and technology, social and humanitarian issues with the publication and exchange of materials. Interaction is also possible in the field of implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, such as: problems of education and science, energy development, alternative energy sources, environmental protection, poverty alleviation, as well as gender issues, etc.
