THE RECTOR HAS BEEN HANDED THE UNIVERSIADE CUP

Within the walls of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the winners of the XI Summer Universiade were honored among the universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The strongest athletes of the XI-Year Universiade of the university were congratulated by the Chairman of the Board-Rector of KazNU named after Al-Farabi Zhanseit Tuimebayev.

Today KazNU is one of the best universities among the CIS countries and Central Asia. This is the result of joint painstaking work of the entire staff of the university, not only in the scientific and educational sphere, but also in sports. Thanks to the hard work and professionalism of coaches and mentors, more than one generation of athletes has been trained.

Many of our student athletes have achieved high sports results at the Olympic Games, Universiades and World and Asian Championships and entered the list of world-class athletes. Among the stars of the university and the country, students and graduates of KazNU of different years occupy a special place: two-time Olympic and four-time world and European champion in basketball (1976, 1980) - Nadezhda Olkhova, champion of the World Universiade in cycling (1984) Yevgeny Korolkov, bronze medalist of the World Winter Universiade in speed skating (1985) Lyudmila Voronina, Olympic medalist in track and field athletics (1988) Olga Turchak, Olympic champion (2000) and bronze medalist in boxing (1996). It was noted that the university teams always show excellent results at competitions of the highest level, and at the XI Summer Universiade, athletes and coaches also showed maximum will, showed skill and perseverance and, of course, presented sports fans with unforgettable spectacular games.

During the ceremony, the team captain of the KazNU named after Al-Farabi, master of sports in basketball, Kadyr Zhalgasbek, handed over the Universiade Cup to the rector of KazNU Zhanseit Tuimebayev. At the end of the event, university coaches Erbol Otynshiev, Galina Sinelnikova, Ermek Kelgenbaev, Balausa Alpysbaeva, Svetlana Sirotina were awarded the medal "Erek enbegi ushin".

Recall that the XI-Year Universiade was held from May 16 to June 10, 2021 in Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Turkestan, Taraz, Kostanay, Ust-Kamenogorsk. National teams from 60 universities of the country took part in the competition.

KazNU named after Al-Farabi confidently won the team competition and took the 1st place, significantly ahead of its rivals in points. Also, our athletes in seven sports took 2nd and six - won 3rd places. In general, our athletes took part in competitions in 35 sports.
