NUMBER OF UNIVERSITIES GRADUATING TEACHERS DECREASED IN KAZAKHSTAN

The number of universities producing teachers has decreased from 86 to 50. The return of 138 annexes to licenses in pedagogical areas was carried out. Let us remind you that earlier the Head of State instructed to take comprehensive measures to ensure the quality of training of future teachers.

 Over the past two years, the ministry has provided universities with various opportunities to improve the quality of educational services. For example, since September of this year, the salaries of university professors have been increased, and it has been legally allowed to employ a much larger number of practicing specialists who are professionals in their field. In addition, since the beginning of the year, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan has developed more than 300 educational programs that are adapted to the modern demands of the labor market. Universities have been granted academic independence, and a graduate certification system has been introduced.

 “The issue of qualification of teachers who will work with children in the future is extremely important for us. Students in schools should be taught by professionals who love their job. Therefore, in this issue, indeed, the main thing is not the quantity, but the quality of the work of universities that graduate teachers. There can be no compromises or concessions. We have universities that provide high-quality training for future teachers. Nevertheless, the results of inspections in some universities are disappointing and show that not all universities meet the requirements. The Ministry gives time for the quality of educational services to be brought in line with the requirements.

If the university does not work to improve the quality, we take more stringent measures, namely, revoke the license. For example, now we have fewer universities that will graduate teachers. But on the other hand, they will be trained by more competitive universities. Over time, this will have a positive effect, ”said Gulzat Kobenova, Chairperson of the Committee for Quality Assurance in Education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
