1/31/2022

Chairman of the Board - Rector of the Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi Zhanseit Tuymebayev met with the holders of the international educational scholarship of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Bolashak".

In order to transfer advanced scientific technologies, the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in his Address to the people of Kazakhstan “Kazakhstan in a new reality: time for action” instructed to provide an annual internship for 500 scientists in leading research centers of the world.

This year, 41 teachers and employees of Al-Farabi KazNU became the holders of this scholarship. This is 7.2% of the total number of scholarship holders in the country, last year they were only 5%. This is a significant breakthrough. The largest number of KazNU scholarship holders - 21 people - will be trained at US universities. 18 Bolashak students will go to European universities, one person each to Japan and Turkey. Among the universities chosen by our colleagues, there are high-ranking ones. Thus, the top 300 includes 16 universities (39%), the top 500 - 5 universities (12%).

Teachers and staff of KazNU will also undergo internships at the universities of George Washington, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Imperial College London, Humboldt University of Berlin, University of Tokyo, etc.

During the meeting, the rector spoke about the achievements and development prospects of the university. KazNU is the first and only university in the country included in the top 200 best universities in the world. Also, the university is in the top of the best in 17 areas of training, which proves the competitiveness of our educational programs. In 2021, KazNU entered the top 250 in terms of employability of graduates in the QS ranking, which confirms that university graduates are in demand both in the country and abroad. Today, the university has a wide range of educational programs and research areas, building up the potential of a research university. These are very serious achievements and, of course, representatives of the faculty of the university made a significant contribution to the overall success.

Today, trends in education are changing very quickly, high-tech approaches are actively used in science. Under these conditions, KazNU scientists should keep up with them and strive to work ahead of the curve. Undoubtedly, all this should lead to the strengthening of the research component of the educational process. A radical update of educational programs is required. New academic disciplines are needed to address future challenges.

Of course, the internship of fellows is aimed at these and other tasks that need to be approached consciously, including the choice of scientific topics and the university where the internship will take place. Its results will be a definite contribution to the transformation of the university into a research one. Fellows have a unique opportunity to conduct joint scientific research in the best universities and scientific centers of the world.

During the meeting, the fellows shared their plans and proposals, and in general, a constructive dialogue was built on the development of cooperation between the university and the world's leading universities and on the development of the scientific component.

The head of the university set a task for the fellows, emphasizing that university scientists should be focused on increasing the contribution of science to the socio-economic development of the country. It is necessary to solve the problem of increasing the effectiveness of scientific projects and programs, which should have a high investment attractiveness. In addition, scientific results ready for commercialization are required. It is necessary to create new research groups for scientific support of the primary tasks of state development. Therefore, it is necessary not only to develop existing scientific schools, but also to form new areas of research. In general, to concentrate on solving the technological problems of the real sector and on the implementation of precisely those scientific programs and projects that are initially of practical importance.
