KazNU celebrates the 100th anniversary of Edham Tenishev

The International Conference «Mir E. R. Tenishev: Life in Science» is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the outstanding scientist started at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Professors, corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR E.R. Tenisheva.  

 

The purpose of the international conference, which takes place at the leading university of the country, is for scientific analysis and evaluation of the works of the outstanding scientist, as well as to determine the perspective of research on his rich heritage.
The organizers of the event were: the Department of Turkology and Theory of Language of the Faculty of Philological Sciences of Al-Farabi KazNU, Hadgettepe University, International Turkic Academy, Moscow State Linguistic University, etc.

 

The plenary session was attended by well-known foreign and Kazakh scientists, linguists, representatives of the scientific community of Turkic-speaking countries, professors, and teachers of the university.

The meeting opened with a video congratulation by Zhanseit Tuimebayev, Chairman of the Board - Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. "Edham Rakhimovich made a great contribution to the revival of the historical memory of the ancient Turks, the study of the integrity of Turkic languages. He has formed his own research school in the field of Turkology, and linguistics, and proved that Turkic civilization and written history have different origins," the head of the university underlined. Having listed the achievements of the outstanding figure, having highly valued his contribution to science, the rector of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabi summed up his speech: "Works of the scientist, who has dug deep into the Turkic world and absorbed our spiritual heritage, require comprehensive comprehension. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University will continue the scientific work in this direction".


Dean of the Faculty of Philology of Kazakh National University Bayan Zholdasbekova addressed the meeting and talked about the life and tireless scientific search of the scientist.
The plenary session was also addressed by: the expert of Intercountry Turkic Academy, Dr. Ph.D. Nurdin Useev (Kyrgyzstan), the head of the department of Turkicology and Kazakh linguistics of Nazarbayev University, president of the Association of Turkologists of the USA, Dr. Yulay Shamilogly, Rector of the International Taraz Innovative Institute, Professor Erbolat Saurykov, Professor of KazUMO and MIA Valery Makhpyrov and others.


The outstanding scientist analyzed the texts of ancient Turkic monuments and delved into their mystery. He proved that in VI-VII centuries the language of Orkhon-Yenisei and Talas monuments was a common written language of Oghuz, Kipchak, Uyghur, and Karluk tribes living in Semirechye, Altai, and Central Asia. It was studied by E. Tenishev, who coined the term "artificial written language.


Professor Edkham Tenishev authored more than 200 research papers, including about 15 scientific monographs, dictionaries, and textbooks for students. He has trained 20 doctors and 30 candidates in science.
The conference also highlighted that the fundamental works on which the scholar worked while training the linguists of Turkic languages would become the basis for new research.

The conference continued with breakout sessions: "E. R. Tenishev's Turkic World in the Interaction of Languages and Cultures", "Comparative and Historical Studies in the Context of E. R. Tenishev's Scientific Activities", and "Epic and Epic Works in the Cultural Heritage of Eurasian Peoples".
