EFFECTIVE AND QUICK-DRYING "ECOBOYAU"

8/18/2022

Currently, one of the main problems is the lack of building materials of domestic production. Since the construction industry in Kazakhstan is gradually developing, it needs comprehensive state support. At the same time, there are a number of problems, such as the development and implementation of competitive innovative products by industrial enterprises, the development of production of import-substituting products, reducing production costs and increasing the scale of production.

To solve these problems, it is necessary to create new high-tech enterprises with a wide range of products. In particular, this applies to the import-dependent market of paints and varnishes. High quality epoxy and polyurethane paint coatings for industrial purposes, imported mainly from Europe, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. There is practically no production of such coating in Kazakhstan, despite the fact that Kazakhstan’s market of industrial coatings has a huge potential, its consumption volume is 400 million US dollars. Kazakhstani manufacturers produce organic solvents and dispersed paint and varnish materials. Despite of the fact that high productivity is achieved through the use of materials based on organic solvents in the production of coatings, the toxicity of paint increases due to the high content of volatile organic compounds.

In dispersion paints, volatile organic compounds are contained in small quantity, therefore they are environmentally friendly and effective in use. This type of paint is represented mainly by water-based acrylic paint. Its main disadvantage is that even after a short time, the coating may become moldy, paint may peel and fall off. Despite this fact, the use of composite paints and varnishes based on acrylic paint is economical, since it has lower production costs.

The joint research project called “Development and Practical Implementation of New Environmentally Friendly, Salt–Free Acrylic Paints with Improved Characteristics for Pilot Production” was implemented by the scientists of KazNU and Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Professor E. Shaykhutdinov. The purpose of the project is to develop a new technology for obtaining new acrylic paints of increased strength, saturation and hardness for industrial use in laboratory conditions.

The further continuation of the research financed by the grant of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan is the commercialization of the project "Creation of Pilot Production of Salt-Free Acrylic Paints with Improved Characteristics" (PhD supervisor L. Agybayeva), funded by JSC "Gylym Qory" and a private partner of "WARDA STAR" LLP. As a result of the project, a new economical technology for producing environmentally friendly acrylate is introduced, whose cost is reduced by 15-20 per cent.

The main competitive advantages of the developed product are the following:

- cost - effectiveness, application of low production temperatures;

- salt-free technology;

- operating temperature is between-450 C and +500 C;

- 7-10 years of durability;

- water resistance.

On January, 21 “WARDA STAR” in cooperation with JSC "Gylym Qory" launched a pilot production of salt-free acrylate paints, which is carried out within the framework of the project.

Up to 50-100 tons of salt-free acrylic paints can be produced per year. At the initial stage, two brands of acrylate paints are produced:

- Base coat WS NG 302, which is widely used in food, manufacturing, chemical, mining, mechanical engineering and primary industries (dairy plants, meat processing, processing enterprises, etc.).

- Primer WS NG 102. Ng 102 serves as an acrylic primer that improves the adhesion of coatings and is used for the formation of concrete surfaces.

By launching an enterprise for the production of acrylic paint, the university supports not only the domestic manufacturer, but also domestic consumers by offering products that are by 15-20 per cent lower than the prices of imported products. The proposed price for acrylic paint with improved characteristics allows not only to compete in the market of Kazakhstan, but also to export products to the countries of the EAEU. This will improve the competitiveness of domestic production and will lead to the further import substitution, which will possibly bring positive changes in the economy and ecology.  The production of acrylic paint will contribute to the development of other industries, such as construction and chemical industry. It is expected that the locally produced acrylic paint will replace the world-famous paint and varnish materials that are currently used in the production and construction on the market of Kazakhstan and other countries.
