THE US EXPERT HAS VISITED KAZNU
11/18/2022Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a meeting with Richard Weitz, an expert on state defense at Wikistrat Crowdsourced Consultancy.
Welcoming the guest, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev briefly highlighted the activities of the university and promising areas for the development of cooperation with foreign partners.
It should be noted that Richard Weitz is a graduate of Harvard and Oxford Universities. He worked as a senior researcher and director of the Center for Military-Political Analysis at the Hudson Institute.
During the meeting the rector of the university informed that KazNU has recently been awarded the status of a research university. He mentioned that for the university the issues of expanding ties with the world's leading universities and research institutes are especially relevant.
Today KazNU cooperates with academic institutions of the USA in various fields and has signed over 13 agreements with leading universities, institutes, research centers, associations, non-governmental organizations of the USA, such as: Michigan Technological University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, University of Wyoming, University of Scranton, etc.
International academic mobility of students and teaching staff is actively developing. Over the past three years, scientific and language internships have been held in American universities: 1 undergraduate student and 33 doctoral students had an opportunity to gain new knowledge. Also, 32 professors of KazNU traveled to the USA in order to implement scientific projects and to participate in international symposiums.
At the moment 30 students from the USA are studying at KazNU, while foreign scientists are involved in special program of the university. Over the past two years, about 8 experts from the United States have been invited to give lectures and conduct research. "For example, at the end of September, a lecture was given by Doctor of Biological Sciences of the Oregon National Primate Research Center and professor of the US Stem Cell Center Shukhrat Mitalipov. He is one of the world's leading scientists in the treatment of genetic diseases. Also recently, Stephen Barnes, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania State Law, gave a leadership lecture on "The principles of Separation of Powers in the US Constitution. Thus, we express our readiness to comprehensively develop and expand cooperation with experts like you," rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev said.
In turn, Richard Weitz thanked the leadership of the KazNU for the warm welcome and expressed readiness for further cooperation. In particular, he said that he would continue his scientific guidance on students in the field of international security, would contribute to the preparation and publication of joint scientific papers with experts of KazNU and prepare analytical reviews in highly rated journals.
