12/21/2022

On the initiative and with the active support of the Chairman of the Board – Rector of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Zhanseit Tuimebayev, about fifty faculty members and young scientists of the university had a great opportunity to gain valuable experience through the internship at Akdeniz University. The group of specialists visited the city of Antalya and enjoyed local sightseeing.

Staying at the five-star Spice Hotel & Spa, the group visited the waterfall Karpuzkaldiran, the historical district Kaleichi, Hadrian’s Gate. Finally, breathing in the fresh sea breeze, they went on a yacht to Tunektepe mountain, which are the most popular tourist places in Antalya. In particular, the world-famous waterfall, the only one that flows directly into the sea, is located at the mouth of the Duden River.

"Karpuzkaldiran" in Turkish means "watermelon falls". Locals named the waterfall after the Duden River, which washed away the watermelon garden right into the sea. Karpuzkaldiran charmed visitors with its beauty and poetic name.

Kaleici district is an old district located on the Mediterranean coast in the southern part of the city. The Old Town was founded during the heyday of the Roman Empire and is the center of a large number of historical monuments. There are several terrific sights such as Hadrian's Gate, Khidirlik tower and Yivli Minare. Today due to its proximity to the sea and developed infrastructure, the region is very popular among tourists. Old houses in Kaleici which were abandoned a few decades ago, now has become the subject of a new history due to restoration work.

The trip allowed tourists to immerse into the new life of the old city, and further continued with a walk on the yacht "Akdeniz". After visiting the Tunektepe mountain, the group reached the peak with a height of 618 meters by the Teleferik cable car. The awesome seascape was opened from the top of the mountain and for sure absolutely mesmerized the participants of the tour.

The delegation of KazNU states that the internship has contributed not only to their professional, but also to their personal development.
