The National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan hosted a meeting with the Consul General of Russia, Evgeniy Bobrov and the head of the Russian House in Almaty Tatyana Baryshnikova, dedicated to the International Book Donation Day. The event was organized by the Faculty of Philology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The purpose of the event is to revive the tradition of bookmaking, popularize reading among the population, and develop students' interest in books.
The Consul General of Russia Evgeniy Bobrov made a welcoming speech. Congratulating the participants on the International Book Donation Day, the guest of honor stressed the relevance of the event and reading culture among young people, who have recently given preference to the Internet and social networks. But reading has not lost its value even in the age of modern technology. In honor of the significant event, the Consulate of the Russian Federation in Almaty donated the best editions of fiction and scientific literature to the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
In response, the Dean of the Faculty of Philology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Bayan Umirbekovna Dzholdasbekova thanked the Consul General for the generous gift. "Our long–term cooperation is confirmed by numerous events, seminars, meetings, creative work with students. On behalf of the leadership of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, let me thank you for your initiative and for strengthening the status of the Russian language in Kazakhstan. We hope for further fruitful cooperation!" the dean said.
