VISIT OF THE KAZNU DELEGATION TO THE UNIVERSITIES OF READING AND WARWICK

Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev visited the University of Reading during a working visit to London.


The events within the framework of the working visit are organized by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Kazakhstani delegation was met by Vice-Chancellor, Professor of the University of Reading, Robert Van de Noort, who spoke in detail about the activities of the university and the main areas of research. In addition, information about internationalization and partnerships with universities was provided by the head of the Global Partnership Department, Steve Thomas.

 

 

The University of Reading received its status in 1926 and was merged with Bulmershe College in 1984. Currently, the university consists of three faculties: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Natural Sciences and Applied Sciences. The University is ranked 229th in the QS World ranking.

                              

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of education and science, academic mobility and internship opportunities for young scientists and academic staff. It was noted that ten cooperation agreements were signed between KazNU and universities in the UK.

 

Within the framework of the program "Attracting Foreign Specialists to Universities in Kazakhstan", three professors from the UK were invited to give lectures and provide scientific guidance to PhD students. Within the framework of the program, the Faculties of Geography and Environmental Management, Chemistry and Chemical Technology, together with the British Council, the University of Reading, held international seminars on various topics related to the ecology of Kazakhstan. Today, KazNU implements joint research projects with the Universities of Brighton and Reading, such as "Nanostructured Carbon Adsorbents for Hemoperfusion", which is funded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The co-director of the project is Professor Vitaly Khutoryanskiy from the University of Reading.

 

                            

Later the delegation of KazNU visited the University of Warwick. The Kazakh delegation was met by the Provost, Professor of the University of Warwick Christine Ennew. The guests were welcomed with a presentation of the University of Warwick, which was founded in 1965. During the meeting, the provost spoke about the main educational directions, plans for the commercialization of scientific developments of the university. The University of Warwick is part of the Midlands Innovation (M5), known as a group of educational institutions and is a member of the European University Association.
