KAZNU HONORED THE MEMORY OF UMIRBEK ZHOLDASBEKOV

Today flower-laying ceremony at the monument of the statesman and public figure, academician Umirbek Aryslanovich Zholdasbekov took place at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

The event, which traditionally takes place on March 1, was attended by descendants and contemporaries of Umirbek Zholdasbekov, academic staff and students of the university.

This year marks the 92^nd anniversary of the figure who devoted his adult life to the development of education and science. The participants of the event honored the memory of Umirbek Zholdasbekov, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of education and society.

A member of the Board, Vice–Rector for Financial Affairs Kalilla Abdullayev, read out a congratulatory letter from Rector Zhanseit Tuimebayev. In his speech, the vice-rector stressed that the merits of Umirbek Arislanovich in the construction of the KazNU campus are immeasurable.

Umirbek Dzholdasbekov served as rector of the university in 1970-1986. During his office, the academician founded the KazNU campus and raised the higher education institution to a new level. Conditions were created for academic staff and scientists, the best specialists from abroad were invited. Under the leadership of O. Zholdasbekov, new laboratories, departments, research centers, as well as the National Engineering Academy of Kazakhstan were created at KazNU. Scientific discoveries and research works of Umirbek Aryslanovich have been widely recognized not only in Kazakhstan, but also in the world scientific community. Thanks to his hard work, he brought up a whole galaxy of mechanical scientists.
