PROMINENT TURKOLOGIST HOLDS A TWO-WEEK SEMINAR AT KAZNU

The Al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted a leadership lecture on the topic "Current Problems of Turkology and Altaic Studies in the Light of the Development of a Research University" by the famous Turkologist, Doctor of Philology, Professor Nikolai Egorov.
The moderator of the event was the Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Professor Zhanseit Tuimebayev. In his welcoming speech, he noted high merits and contribution to the world of science, corresponding member of the Turkish Linguistic Society, Professor Nikolai Ivanovich Egorov.
"We have known each other for more than 40 years. We were once young scientists of the Committee of Soviet Turkologists. Last year we opened the Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies, Nikolai Ivanovich came to us. And now he is the chief researcher of our institute, which has acquired an international level," the head of the university emphasized.
Nikolay Ivanovich Egorov is an Honored Worker of Science of the Chuvash Republic, a member of the Presidium of the International Association of Turkologists. He was awarded the medal of the Order of Merit to the Chuvash Republic. Author of more than 400 scientific papers. He has numerous publications on Chuvash ethnic group and glottogenesis, critical understanding of the Altai theory, the oldest contacts of the languages of the Bulgarian-Chuvash type.
On behalf of the entire team of KazNU’s scientists, the rector thanked the foreign guest for cooperation with the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies. By the decision of the Academic Council of the University, Nikolai Ivanovich Egorov was awarded the title of Honorary Professor of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.
“The focus of the Research Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies should be the sphere of diachronic study of the people, cultures and languages of the Turkic world, their close relationship with other historically contacted people of Central Asia. This is the main research area of the Institute of Turkology and Altaic Studies. Turkology at the modern level acquires a wide scope and content and is perceived as a set of not only linguistic, but also socio-humanitarian disciplines,” the professor Egorov stressed.
The program of Egorov's stay at KazNU over the next two weeks includes unique lectures and workshops, individual consultations on the topic of ongoing research, meetings with Kazakhstani scientists.
