Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev discussed the development of neuroscience in Kazakhstan with Almira Kustubayeva, member of the National Council for Science and Technology under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Head of the Department of Biophysics, Biomedicine and Neuroscience.
Neuroscience is a relatively new field of knowledge, which is actively developed by Professor Almira Kustubayeva, who created the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience at Al–Farabi Kazakh National University.
At the meeting, the scientist spoke about the research that the institution conducts and made a proposal to establish an Institute for the Brain. For the first time in Kazakhstan, this interdisciplinary center will conduct fundamental and applied brain research. The Brain Institute can become a conglomerate combining natural sciences, humanities and hard sciences. Fundamental research of the brain, such as the study of neuromechanisms of emotional and cognitive functions and consciousness will attract international scientific funds to finance scientific projects.
Zhanseit Kanseitovich supported Almira Melsovna's initiative and expressed readiness to support the scientists who will conduct applied brain research.
The scientific research that the Brain Institute will be engaged in optimizing rationality and efficiency in thinking, promoting the development of brain-computer interfaces, optimizing the processes of cognitive development and emotional state, correcting deviant development, preventing the processes of deterioration of cognitive functions during aging, etc.
