THE II STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION OF THE KAZNU TOWN HAS BEGUN

A capsule laying ceremony was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University dedicated to the start of the II stage of construction of the KazNU campus.

On June 1, 2022, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev specially visited the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The President expressed great support and approved the main plan of the II stage of the construction of the KazNU campus.

Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek, Deputy Akim of Almaty Alisher Abdikadyrov, Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev, representatives of business and science, rectors of other universities took part in the event dedicated to the beginning of the II stage of construction of KazNU.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek noted that day's initiative was a historic event.

"If we make an excursion into the history of KazNU, then for the first time an educational institution was built on the model of an academic campus. After 1974-75 the university did not receive large investments. Therefore, today's event is of great importance. The construction plan was supported by the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich. We can say that the university has gotten a second wind," the minister emphasized.

"KazNU is a fundamental, leading university in the country, known all over the world. Many young people of the country and abroad choose the Kazakh National University to receive a modern education. Today more than 24 thousand students study at KazNU, among them more than 3 thousand foreign students from almost 50 countries. The university has risen to 150th place in the QS WUR world ranking. The Head of State saw this plan last year when he visited our university and supported all our initiatives. From today work will begin on the implementation of the II stage of the KazNU campus," the rector announced.

Sayasat Nurbek, Alisher Abdikadyrov and Zhanseit Tuimebayev put a letter with a message to future generations into the capsule.The letter says: "We are on the threshold of a new era of modernization of the KazNU. This is a historic moment for the university. Everything that is being done today at the II stage of the modernization of the campus, and the construction that will begin soon, is for your well-being. We have high hopes that you will acquire new knowledge here and develop further our country" the message says.

According to the plan, the campus has academic buildings with 14,700 seats, administrative buildings with 12 thousand square meters, a clinic with an area of 35,000 square meters, sports and wellness center with an area of 3,000 square meters, housing for employees, an innovation center, a research center, technopark, as well as dormitories with 12 thousand beds with an area of 3 hectare for students.
