RECTOR OF KAZNU MET WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF TURKEY

Chairman of the Board – Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University Zhanseit Tuimebayev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Kazakhstan Mustafa Kapucu.

At the meeting the head of the KazNU focused on close cooperation between fraternal countries. This year during a devastating natural disaster in Turkey, the university’s staff created an operational headquarters and sent humanitarian aid to victims. Close ties in the field of science, higher education and culture are strengthened with universities in Turkey. In particular, cooperation has been established with 45 leading universities such as Istanbul, Yeditepe, Ankara, Mimar Sinan. Within the framework of the Mevlana program, 31 cooperation agreements have been signed with Turkish universities.

"Last year branch of KazNU was opened at Istanbul. Since 1996 the TURKSOY Department has been successfully operating at KazNU. This year approximately 82 Turkish students study at KazNU at medical, geography and environmental management, law faculties. In addition, after a natural, we made a special discount for Turkish students," the rector stated.

In turn, the guest of honor noted the achievements of KazNU in the ranking of the world's best universities QS and wished success. He thanked the university staff for their support in difficult times. Noting the substantial assistance of the university in the amount of 115 thousand dollars, Ambassador emphasized that the yurts helped the population of Khatai to find a roof over their heads. The Ambassador proposed to combine the cooperation initiatives of the presidents of the two countries and jointly implement new programs.

The sides also discussed issues of the common history of the Turkic people and agreed to develop new areas of cooperation.
