Opportunities for study at foreign universities

The best students are sent on free of charge to semester studies within the framework of academic mobility in the Kazakhstan and foreign universities based on the international exchange programs and interuniversity agreements.

Within the frameworks of the International Educational Program “University of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO University or SCO)”, a double-degree master's program has been implemented since 2012 in cooperation with the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN, Moscow, the RF). Every year for applicants from the Kazakhstan are allocated the 2-3 grants for training in this program. Master's students have the opportunity for 2 years of study to receive two state diplomas – the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.

Within the framework of Interuniversity Agreements, since 2015, a joint master's program has been implemented in cooperation with the Belgorod State University (BelSU, Belgorod, the RF). Every year, up to 4 undergraduates enter this program on a parity basis. Entering one of the universities – Al-Farabi KazNU or BelSU, a master's student at the second university studies for free. Master's students have the opportunity for 2 years of study to receive two state diplomas – the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.

Ph.D. students, as a rule, undergo foreign scientific internships in accordance with the place of work of the foreign scientific supervisor. Total duration of internships: at least 90 days in neighboring countries; not less than 75 days in foreign countries; 60 days in the UK, Japan, USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia and countries of the Oceania.

Students' practices and internships 

For students during the study for Bachelor’s programs, the following educational and professional practices are provided:

1. after the 2nd semester: the educational-training practice in the form of an exciting, multi-day, mountain hike;
2. after the 4th semester: the professional, international, tourism internship;
3. after the 6th and 8th semester: the internship at the enterprises and organizations in the service sector;
4. in the 8th semester: the pre-diploma practice at the enterprises and organizations in the service sector.
