On June 20, 2017, an international conference dedicated to the Great Silk Road was held in the al-Farabi Kazakh National University, which united an international team of experts in the field of research of this cultural and geographical segment of the world history.

In the KazNU. Al-Farabi hosted the International Scientific Forum on the Unification of the Korean Peninsula. The Forum was organized by the Ministry of Association of the Republic of Korea, the Central Asian Consultative Council for the Peaceful and Democratic Association of Korea, the Association of Koreans of Kazakhstan, the Almaty Korean National Center and KazNU. For students, who want to know about Korea and increase their Korean language abilities, this event will provide lots of information of Korean history, tradition, and culture by experiencing various activities such as quiz, movie, food, dance, meeting with Korean consul general in Kazakhstan embassy, and so on. We expect that this event help the communication between Korea and Kazakhstan.
In order to realize the strategic development of the university, the development of external academic mobility, also in the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding in the field of science and education Department of the Far East of Kazakh National University named after Al-Farabiwith Waseda University (Japan), initiated the Winter School in 2017. Students who specialize in the study of Central Asia arrived in the amount of 8 people with the head professor Ogihara Atsushi.

On March 11th 2017, the al-Farabi Kazakh National University hosted the annual competition of Japanese speech contest, which has been held regularly since 1999.
This contest, organized by the Embassy of Japan in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan Association of Japanese Language Teachers and Al-Farabi KazNU, was dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Japan.

Within the Winter School at KazNU students of the University of Tsukuba (Japan) together with students of the Department of Oriental Studies of the Chair of Far East held an International Student Forum titled "Elderly Population Issues in Kazakhstan and Japan."
The president's visit N.A. Nazarbayev to Japan was an important contribution to the further development of relations between Japan, Kazakhstan and the other Central Asian countries. The visit culminated in the signing of an important statement “On special strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Japan in the Asian century of prosperity.” At present, Central Asia continued to show dynamic growth rates. Many leading Japanese universities are studying Central Asia, culture and business opportunities in the region.
