At the largest business exhibition «SAP in Kazakhstan», which was held in Astana, an Agreement on joining of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University to the«SAP» University Alliance has been signed. On the basis of the University, an innovative laboratory «SAP Next-Gen Labs» will be deployed to solve the tasks of business and economics of the country, as well as train teachers and students in new IT technologies.

For the first time, Kazakhstan's University - Al-Farabi KazNU entered the top 220 among the 800 best universities in the world, by moving forward to another 16 positions in the international ranking of QS «World University Rankings». Only two universities in the post-Soviet space have joined this group - KazNU and Lomonosov Moscow State University (RF).

May 31, 2018 at the Law Faculty of KazNU named after al-Farabi within the framework of the project The public reception "Civil Control" on the social order of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Civil Service and Anti-Corruption Affairs held a scientific and practical conference on the topic: "Modern technologies, resources and countermeasures mechanisms corruption in the institutions of the penal system".

In Moscow, the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia hosted the second International Forum-Exhibition «QS Worldwide», in which representatives of more than 400 leading universities of the world took part. Taking into account the growing role of the HEIs of Kazakhstan in the global scientific and educational space, the Executive Council of QS decided to hold the next forum in Kazakhstan on the basis of Al-Farabi KazNU.

Chairman of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace of the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Jarwan, visited the Faculty of Oriental Studies of al-Farabi KazNU at the end of May this year as а part of his official trip to Almaty. Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies Yktiyar Paltore met the honor guest and acquainted with the Faculty. The dean said that relations with the Arab countries are currently at an insufficiently high level.

President of the Republic of Korea Moon Jae-in awarded the Rector of Al-Farabi KazNU academician Galym Mutanov with a medal.

Al-Farabi KazNU took part in the exhibition «International Education» in Baku (Azerbaijan).

Rector of the University of Ka Foscari Michel Bouglisi paid a working visit to KazNU named after al-Farabi and met with the leading staff of the leading university of Kazakhstan.
