At the al-Farabi KazNU began working Summer School
7/21/2010July 20 began its work VII Annual Summer School on the theme "Cooperation of USA, NATO and Central Asian in regional security", organized by the Resource Center of American and Democratic Studies, Resource and Information Centre on NATO at the execution of al-Farabi KazNU and the University of New Mexico (USA), supported by the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Department of Public Diplomacy NATO (Brussels, Belgium).
At the opening of the Summer School were the General Consul of the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan Robert Lane, Vice-Rector of al-Farabi KazNU Nurlan Temirbekov, Director of International Security program of University of New Mexico (USA) Frank Gilfizer, director of international programs of the University of New Mexico (USA) Thomas Bogenshild, the leaders of the Summer School: Director of "Resource Center of American and Democratic Studies" Professor Fatima Kukeeva, director of the Resource and Information Centre on NATO at the execution of al-Farabi KazNU Professor Kuralay Baizakova.
The main purpose of this Summer School - to teach future professionals in the field of international relations to understand the issues of the geopolitical situation in Central Asia, regional and global challenges and risks, in particular, issues dealing with the situation in Afghanistan. Over the past 7 years, more than 200 young researchers have gone through summer school, and are advocating it in their countries.
Summer school has become a forum for young Americans from the Central Asian states, which enables students, masters and doctoral students to acquire new knowledge, to discuss topical issues of bilateral relations with Central Asian States to the United States and NATO.
Feature of VII Summer School is its international character. As listeners to participate in the school invited 40 top students, postgraduates and doctoral students from universities in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Russia. As lecturers, organizers of the Summer School invited renowned experts from universities, research institutes and centers of Kazakhstan and US - Gregory Glissen, Elena Mastors etc. For the first time in summer school will be attended by American students of the University of New Mexico, who will be able to communicate with their Central Asian peers in lectures, discussions and seminars.
