Preserve the flame of medicine's torch and pass it on for it to burn forever…

 On November 20 the Grand library hall held the official opening of the Higher school of medicine.

42 local and international freshman students of the school — who come from Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Palestine, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia — had the traditional ceremony of putting on a white coat — the white coat ceremony.

Welcoming speeches were given by vice rector for education Khikmetov A.K., vice rector for commercialization Mehmet Arslan, dean of the faculty of medicine and healthcare Kalmatayeva Zh.A., director of the Higher school of medicine Issayeva R.B. Through the ages the words of wisdom were heard from Al-Farabi, Abu Ali Ibn Sina, Hippocrates. Freshman students gave the oath to uphold traditions of the university, keep faithfulness to the medical profession, respect teachers, and become true healthcare professionals. 

The academic year 2018-19 is historical for our university. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is celebrating its 85th anniversary. This anniversary year the faculty of medicine and healthcare launches the Higher school of medicine to train professionals of the noblest kind — physicians. 
In every university in the world, there is a tradition of wearing white coats on new students of medical schools — the white coat ceremony. The white color of the coat is a color of purity, a symbol of salvation and great trust. On this festive day, we congratulate all future medics and wish them to wear their coats in accordance with the symbolic meaning these coats represent.
