Lecture of the head of the department of economics and economic relations of the Embassy of Japan in the KazNU

On September 13th at the Oriental Studies’ Faculty of the Kazakh National University named after al-Farabi the representative of the Japanese Embassy in Kazakhstan gave a lecture on «Japan in the period of high economic growth».

The lecture included topics such as a plan for doubling revenues, a plan for remodeling the archipelago of Japan, an oil crisis, and also the work of Japanese enterprises in the 1960s. The speaker was the Head of Economics and Economic Cooperation Section, Mr. Yukio ISHIBIKI, who said «In the 1960s, there was an economic leap in Japan, the beginning of which is the time of recovery from the Second World War. Up until the first half of the 1970s, a several developments were taking place: industrial growth, the depreciation of the yen, that was favorable for exports, and an increase in the quality of the labor force. Hence, Japan was able to become an advanced country».

The lecture was attended by undergraduate and graduate students, doctoral students, who are studying at the Faculty of Oriental Studies, as well as students of the Japanese University of Waseda. The language of the event was Japanese. The lecture was aimed to familiarizing students with the history of Japan in the context of the economy. To raise students’ awareness in Japan, the embassy traditionally holds similar events.

Such lectures contribute to the extraction of lessons from history, using the example of more developed countries. Working mechanisms, technologies that were applied in Japan in the 1960s show that this path of economic development was productive. As evidenced by the level of development of the economy of modern Japan.

At the end of the lecture, the audience had the opportunity to ask questions.
