Forum between KazNU and Tokyo University

On March 15, 2019, a student forum was held at the Faculty of Oriental Studies as part of the winter school with the participation of the Far East Department and the Faculty of Human Sciences of Tokyo University. Students actively participated in the forum, telling about the features of learning, culture, and also about their hobbies. Forum languages: English and Japanese. Several students of KazNU have spoken. Undergraduates of the first course held a presentation on the topic "Kazakh National Games", and also held some of these games. Guests from Japan tried to play Asyk, to find similarities between the Kazakh and Japanese games. It is important to note their positive response and active desire to try to play some of these games themselves. A 3rd-year student of the specialty Oriental Studies, Ibysheva Dina, presented an environmental project for the recycling of plastic and paper in Kazakhstan, based on the experience of the small enterprise Zhasyl Zhurek that she created. The speech aroused keen interest and discussion. Students of the 3rd year of the specialty "Foreign Philology" made a presentation on the culture of Kazakhstan: national music, literature, and cinema. During this presentation, foreign students danced to the Kazakh national music. Also, students of the 3rd course of the specialty "Translation Studies" demonstrated a high level of Japanese. In the second part of the forum, students from Tokyo University spoke. It was especially interesting to listen about student self-government, about the events they organized. For example, at the university, during the autumn festival, students suggested using non-plastic ware, all the rubbish after the event was collected by the students themselves, and 75% of the rubbish was recycled. One of the students is a member of the student club “Theater No”. He demonstrated his acting skills on the forum. The final presentation of the forum demonstrated the art of Origami. The author spoke about the features and subtleties of the original art. At the end of all performances the buffet table began. Participants exchanged opinions, shared their impressions. Japanese students demonstrated a tea ceremony, showed Kazakhstan students how to pour and drink tea. Guest prepared a “gift” for Kazakhstan students, having danced the Japanese dance in national costumes. The forum ended with a photo for memory and exchange of contacts.
