KazNU’s European Vector

Al-Farabi KazNU actively participates in international scientific and educational programs of the European Union. University Rector Galym Mutanov and EU Ambassador to Kazakhstan Sven-Olov Karlsson have discussed issues of further deepening strategic cooperation.

Welcoming the distinguished guest, the Rector of KazNU spoke about the scientific, educational and innovative activities of the University, its achievements, participation in the implementation of international projects, including with European Universities. Galym Mutanov focused on the work of the Center for European Studies, which was opened at KazNU in 1998. It was also noted that the University is actively involved in the programs of the European Union: Erasmus +, IAESTE, Representation of the European Commission to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Konrad Adenauer Fund, DAAD, etc.

KazNU participates in more than 50 mobility and capacity building projects in higher education in the framework of the Erasmus+ program, and it is the Coordinator of the project «Enhancement of higher education and corporate sectors integration in accordance with new social environment «ENINEDU». These projects are implemented in partnership with leading Universities in Europe.

During the meeting, the EU Ambassador emphasized the importance of developing scientific and humanitarian cooperation between Kazakhstan and the EU countries, the development of international exchange in the field of higher education and science. «Today, students from Europe show great interest in studying in your country, especially at KazNU. The infrastructure and achievements of your University are certainly impressive. One of the reasons for my visit is to contribute to the development of scientific and educational cooperation, in particular, within the framework of the Erasmus+ program. I am convinced that this is a promising area», - said Sven-Olov Karlsson.

The Ambassador also highlighted the positive experience of the collaboration of KazNU within the framework of EU programs, in particular, the results of the Tempus QUEECA project to ensure the quality of engineering education in Central Asia. Thanks to its implementation, National Agencies for the accreditation of educational programs in Central Asian countries, including KazSEE in Kazakhstan, were created. In addition, the KazSEE Accreditation Agency has received authorization in the European Network for Engineering Education with the European Quality Mark EUR-ACE. This was an important step in the integration of Central Asian countries into the European scientific and educational space. 

Sven-Olov Karlsson assured that in the future he intends to provide comprehensive support for the University’s participation in EU programs, the activities of the Center for European Studies of KazNU, as well as for the development and deepening of cooperation with European HEIs.
