MEETING WITH INDIAN AMBASSADOR

«Ambassador Hour» with participation of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Kazakhstan, Mr. Prabhat Kumar was held at the Faculty of Oriental studies of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The event was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Republic of India and the spiritual leader of the Indian people, Mahatma Gandhi.

On January 26, 1950, the Constitution of India was adopted and the Day of the Republic of India was declared. Mahatma Gandhi is known as the leader of the struggle for Indian independence.

The Ambassador hour was organized by the Mahatma Gandhi Center at the Department of Middle East and South Asia. The purpose of such events is to develop educational, scientific and cultural relations between Al-Farabi KazNU and the higher education institutions of the Republic of India. The event was attended by the Director of the Center for Indian Classical Dance Kainazarova Akmaral, faculty and students of the Department of Indology.

In his speech, the Ambassador of the Republic of India, Mr. Prabhat Kumar, congratulated the staff and students of the Faculty of Oriental Studies on the occasion of the 1150th anniversary of Al-Farabi. In his speech, the Ambassador spoke about the development of friendly, cultural and scientific ties between India and Kazakhstan. The Ambassador also shared his opinion on providing Indian language students with textbooks and literature, organizing joint scientific conferences, and supporting students’ research.

During the meeting, students of Indology read aphorisms of M. Gandhi, performed scenes from his life, and sang songs, told about the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi.

Director of the Center for Indian Culture Swami Vivekananda, Sanjay Garg expressed gratitude to the staff of the Faculty and the teaching staff of the Department of Indology.

The event, organized jointly with the Department of the Middle East and South Asia together with the Embassy of India in the Republic of Kazakhstan, was held at a very high level. The Ambassador of India expressed gratitude for the work done by the Department of Indology and for the activity of students in learning the Hindi language and studying about India, noting that in the future it will help to strengthen relations between KazNU and Universities of the Republic of India.
