10/8/2020

Within the framework of the «Rukhani Zhangiru» program and Elbasy’s article «Seven Facets of the Great Steppe», Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in cooperation with international partners has made a series of documentary films devoted to Al-Farabi, which were shown on the air of domestic and foreign TV channels.

A documentary film «Al-Farabi – Second Teacher» has been shot together with documentary filmmakers and scientists from Turkey and the Netherlands. The film was shot at «Walkers Productions», a Dutch-language film studio, and was shown in Europe. KazNU’s Teleradiocomplex dubbed the film, and its premiere presentation in Kazakhstan was held during the second Farabi Readings at KazNU. Later, the film was broadcast in Kazakh on the national TV channels of Kazakhstan.

KazNU, jointly with the representative office of the Alliance of Civilizations in Turkey, has also produced a historical and documentary film «Al-Farabi – Philosopher of Civilization», which was presented at an international symposium in Baku (Azerbaijan) in 2016.

The next major international project involving KazNU was the documentary film «Al-Farabi – Thinker of Civilization». The three-part film was produced in cooperation with the International Center for Cultural Research «Medar» (Turkey). It is the first time that valuable historical information and facts from the life of the great Oriental thinker Al-Farabi are presented in the film. The Kazakh version of the film was premiered in Almaty in 2019 as part of the Kazakhstani program of the Turkic World Documentary Film Festival.

In honor of the 1150th anniversary of the great thinker of the East, which is being celebrated in 2020 under the auspices of UNESCO, KazNU is working on another film project dedicated to Al-Farabi – «The Return of the Teacher». Kazakhstani cinematographers are involved in this project. During their visit to Damascus, the film crew had the opportunity to study manuscripts of Al-Farabi’s treatises in the National Library of Syria. The film was shot in Kazakhstan, Turkey, Egypt, Syria, and other countries where the great son of the Turkic world lived and worked. The presentation of the film on national channels will take place in late 2020.
