A LESSON OF COURAGE

February 15 - Day of withdrawal of a limited contingent of Soviet troops from Afghanistan. This date was dedicated to the Lesson of Courage, which took place online, at the military department of KazNU named after al-Farabi.

The event was attended by an internationalist soldier, a holder of the Order of the Red Star and the medal "For Courage", a senior teacher of the military department of KazNU named after al-Farabi, reserve lieutenant colonel Alexander Nikolaevich Shashatsky, teachers and students of the university.

Opening the Lesson of Courage, the head of the military department of KazNU named after al-Farabi, reserve colonel O.V. Azhimov noted that all the soldiers who took part in that war showed the best qualities of a soldier, officer, and internationalist warrior.

In the period from 1979 to 1989, over 22 thousand internationalist soldiers from Kazakhstan passed through the crucible of the Afghan war. The losses of Soviet troops in Afghanistan amounted to more than 14 thousand soldiers killed and 298 missing. About a thousand of Kazakhstanis are considered dead, 21 are missing. 4377 Kazakh soldiers were awarded orders and medals for their heroism in the performance of combat missions.

Honored Veteran of the Armed Forces, Reserve Lieutenant Colonel A.N. Shashatsky, speaking to the students, recalled his comrades in arms, about what they had to experience in that terrible war. All of them endured the hardships of the war with dignity, showing military valor, courage, heroism and military comradeship.

Students Madina Karsenbay and Zhalau Elbol spoke on behalf of the younger generation. “Bowing to the courage of the veterans, keeping in our hearts the memory of the heroic patriots, we, future officers, will do our best to serve the Motherland and preserve peace on earth,” Jalau Elbol concluded his speech.

The film "Chronicle of the Afghan War", which was shown during the meeting, aroused great interest.
