AZHAR ZHUBANOVA - 80 YEARS

6/5/2021

At the Kazakh National University. Al-Farabi hosted the II International Scientific and Practical Conference "Modern Problems of Biotechnology: from Laboratory Research to Production", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the prominent scientist-microbiologist, academician of the Kazakhstan National Academy of Natural Sciences, Professor Azhar Zhubanova.

The conference was held in a hybrid format on the ZOOM platform. The conference was attended by leading domestic and foreign experts in the field of biotechnology, genetics and ecology.

More than 60 reports were heard on topical problems of modern biotechnology, genetics, molecular biology and ecology. The speeches of the speakers were devoted to the latest achievements in the development of probiotics, biofuels, bio- and nanomaterials for applied purposes. Thus, specialists from the Institute of Combustion Problems and the National Center for Biotechnology RSE presented reports on the development of nanomaterials for water purification and injection biomaterials to stimulate the regeneration of ostechondral and bone defects. Scientists KazNU named after Al-Farabi spoke about the results of the influence of the surface properties of cells of microorganisms on the effectiveness of their practical use. Scientists noted the scientific interests of A.A. Zhubanova, which are associated with solving important practical problems of microbiology, biotechnology and ecology. She has developed methods for producing ethanol, lactic acid, fermented beverages using immobilized cells of microorganisms, the priority of which is protected by 6 patents of the Republic of Kazakhstan. An important place in scientific research conducted by A.A. Zhubanova, belongs to the development of bioremediation technology and environmental monitoring of soils and water bodies. Practically implemented a methodology for the neutralization and disposal of solid waste at the storage site of LLP "Khimprom-service-Aktobe" (there is an implementation certificate); the crushed stone layer of the railway track was cleaned from oil products using oil-oxidizing bacteria (there is a copyright certificate). Methods for the indication and purification of industrial and domestic wastewater have been developed, dietary supplements have been created to increase the egg production of chickens and increase the weight of chickens based on the biomass of microalgae - spirulina. The drug "Spirulina Life" is registered in the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

For her great contribution to education and science, A.A. Zhubanova, on the recommendation of the Higher Attestation Commission, in 2006 was awarded by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the badge "Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan", she was awarded the State grant "The best teacher of the university", 2007, in 2009 she was awarded a silver medal of KazNU them. al-Farabi, later winner of the Great Gold Medal. In 2016 she was awarded the "Ormet" order, in 2018 - the "Enbek ardagerі" medal.
