BIG DATA IN GEODESY - A NEW TIME PROFESSION

12/2/2021

Global trends in the development of digital technologies place high demands on the training of specialists in areas that were previously considered futuristic. Al-Farabi Kazakh National University is already training professionals for the new educational program "Big data in geodesy".

In the world, both state institutions and sectors of the economy operate on the basis of big data. In large construction companies, work with big data is represented practically at all stages of activity. Such areas as BIM technologies, 3D printing of a house, and design of a smart home are actively developing.

In Kazakhstan, work with big data is only developing in many areas, including: construction, mining and oil and gas industries, where geodetic works are performed.

The use of artificial intelligence and application programs makes it possible to process a huge amount of information in the search and design of construction projects, the development of industrial, civil, transport and energy facilities, quarries, mines, oil and gas transportation. Big data analysis allows you to reduce production costs, select the optimal production parameters, reduce labor emergencies, and prevent production risks.

Due to the growing popularity of big data technology and its active implementation in various areas, a new educational program "Big data in geodesy" has been developed at the country's leading university. Its advantage lies in the fact that it is aimed at acquiring the knowledge that allows the surveyor to apply big data analytics to the labor market. At the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics, which implements this program, a base of practices for enterprises in the construction, mining and oil and gas sectors of Kazakhstan is being formed.

The EP “Big data in geodesy” includes such disciplines as: “Cloud technologies for big data analytics” and “Designing smart home infrastructure”. In addition, in the future, the introduction of discipline on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and machines in the construction and mining industries is being considered.

Experienced specialists and scientists in the field of digital technologies, design of construction facilities, development of fields, mines and quarries, oil and gas transportation are involved in the educational process. When developing educational programs, the advanced experience of countries such as Germany, Japan, South Korea, Russia was carefully studied, the opinions and feedback of employers were taken into account. This approach will make it possible to participate in academic mobility programs and exchange experience with leading universities in this area.

The oil and gas and mining and metallurgical industries are priority sectors in the country's economy. Already, in Kazakhstan, there are state programs for housing and communal and infrastructural development "Nurly Zhol" for 2020-2025. The contribution of the university to the industrial and innovative development of the country's economy will increase the competitiveness of Kazakhstan in the post-pandemic period.
