During the study of course, master students should acquire the following competencies: 1. plan, prepare a task for carrying out and carry out EIA of various types of economic activities; 2. identify the most significant environmental impact factors of the analyzed object of expertise or audit and prepare documentation for environmental expertise; 3. establish compliance of economic activity with environmental requirements and determine the feasibility of the object of environmental expertise; 4. organize public hearings on EIA and interaction with the state body of environmental regulation and control, with public organizations; 5. carry out engineering and environmental studies to assess the environmental impact of different types of economic activities and to prepare relevant private and consolidated expert assessments and conclusions. During the study of the discipline students will learn following aspects: environmental consequences of various types of economic activities, the concept of environmental impact assessment, objectives and principles of environmental impact assessment (EIA), the legal framework of environmental assessment and EIA, methodological provisions and principles of environmental justification of economic activities in pre-investment and project activities, modern methods of EIA, EIA of various types of economic activity, the procedure of the state ecological expertise, the tasks and role of public ecological expertise, the principles of environmental audit.

The course examines the current state and problems of the water sector, the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan and modern international principles in the use of water resources, water resources management planning, concepts and tools for water resources management at the international, subnational (EU), national and local levels.
